Words From Our Chief Operating Officer, Brandon Reece
As I look back over 2018 and prepare to jump head first into the new year, I’m struck with how far our company has come. As our team has pushed to grow into new markets and business sectors, one thing has remained true since the beginning: a sincere dedication to company culture.
What is company culture? It is the shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterize an organization. It is the feeling you get when you walk through the company’s doors or interact with their staff.
Why does it matter? Healthy cultures reduce turnover, increase productivity, increase performance consistency, improve customer service levels, and ensure businesses remain committed to their founding principles.
Identify and Establish
Take time to intentionally process and put into writing the foundational principles you want to build your business around. Process your business’ why or mission, establish core values, and identify the goals and culture you want the business to embody.
Build into Processes, Procedures and Training
Employee training and onboarding should equip team members to live out the company’s values and priorities. Performance evaluations and standard operating procedures should reinforce behaviors that align with those priorities.
Communicate, Reward and Affirm
When it comes to attitudes, values, goals, and guiding practices, communicate them clearly and often. Orient new employees to the culture and provide spaces for peers and leadership to recognize behaviors that support it.
No matter how busy we are, we can never forget our primary mission of creating and sustaining our team or company culture. This is how you breathe passion for your business into your team and equip them to take the organization into the future.
