Are you Prepared for Winter Weather?

The warm fall days are in the past and the days are getting shorter and colder. Just as you break out your warm jackets and boots in preparation for the colder weather, it is important to also think about prepping your home or business for winter weather.

Interior Tips

  • Keep a minimum temperature of 60 degrees
  • Keep registers and vents clean and clear of obstacles so air can flow freely
  • Replace furnace filters regularly, helping air flow and efficiency and reducing the risk of fire in extreme cases
  • To prevent water lines from freezing, leave cabinet doors open to allow the heated air to get to your pipes, especially on pipes located on exterior walls
  • On especially cold nights, allow a slow trickle of water from your bathroom or kitchen faucet

What if a Leak Happens or Pipes are Already Frozen?

  • Shut your water off first thing! Shut off valves are usually located under your sink and toilet or above your water heater
  • In case of an emergency, it’s best to shut off the main water valve as well. This will help prevent even more damage
  • For emergency clean-up 24/7 , call Summit Cleaning & Restoration at 800-769-1553

If You Find Your Pipes are Already Frozen

  • Call Summit Cleaning & Restoration immediately, we will help you find a plumber to help
  • DO NOT run any dishwashers or washing machines until water lines are completely thawed
  • Again, keep cabinet doors open to help warm air get to your pipes
